For the 2025-26 school calendar, CFSD is considering alternate calendars with start dates of July 30, August 6, and August 13. We are not considering an extended calendar because a recent change in Arkansas law has provided us with the flexibility to consider early-start alternate calendars that have all the benefits of the extended calendar. The extended calendar would restrict us to 178 school days, no inclement weather days, and not allow us to count extra instructional time.

The change to Arkansas law allows districts to adopt alternate calendars with start dates any time after July 1. However, it is unclear if this will remain the law after the Arkansas State Legislature convenes from January through May 2025. We are considering these calendar options, while also preparing for the possibility that the legislature could enact laws this spring that require calendar revisions.

The July 30 alternate and August 6 alternate calendars have approximately the same number of school days, but they change how those days are spread out to provide more frequent breaks during the year and a shorter summer break. The August 13 alternate calendar would be essentially the same as this year's calendar. The main benefit of an alternate calendar is that a district can "bank" additional time to use during inclement weather days. 

Before making any decisions on the 25-26 calendar, we are asking for input from employees, families, and community members. A community forum for families and community members will be held on December 5 at 6:30 PM in Garrison Auditorium.
