Elementary Building Realignment Proposal Announced

Camden Fairview families:

This week, I’ve shared with Camden Fairview employees the 2022-2023 elementary building realignment plan I will be recommending to the school board at the February 15, 2022 school board meeting. News of change always brings uncertainty, so it was important that I shared this news with employees in person before it began circulating in our community. Now, I’m excited to be able to share an overview of the building realignment plan with Camden Fairview families and other community stakeholders.

Let me start with a little background: Camden Fairview’s current building footprint is based on our 2003 K-12 enrollment of 3159 students. Today’s K-12 enrollment is approximately 2129 students. Since 2006, Camden Fairview central office administration has known our building footprint would need to be re-evaluated if enrollment continued its downward trend to 2100. That time has come, and I’m committed to using it to strengthen and enhance the services we provide to our students and families. We must reimagine Camden Fairview to both reflect our current enrollment and allow us to chart a strong path forward for the future.

I will recommend the following plan to the board Tuesday night. In the 2022-2023 school year:

  • FES will expand to serve grades K-3. A K-3 elementary school provides greater stability and consistency by allowing our youngest students to remain in the same building for four years. K-3 staff will also have more opportunities for teachers and facilitators to engage with peer and instructional support.
  • Ivory Primary will become Ivory Intermediate School and will serve grades 4-5.
  • The Pope Street campus will become home to an Early Childhood Education Center and serve all Camden Fairview pre-k students. Special education offices will also be moved to this campus later during the 2022-23 school year.
  • This realignment will not impact CFMS or CFHS campuses or the services they provide.

We will be providing more detailed information to our staff, families, and community in the coming weeks. Your input and questions are always welcomed. Please share your elementary building realignment questions, comments, and concerns with us here

Thank you.
